Popular cricket formats and competitions in Bangladesh

Before getting into cricket betting it helps to know the different formats, as each one has its own style of play and betting opportunities.

T20 cricket — just 20 overs per side. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are the biggest events in this format. Because results come quickly and every over can bring a dramatic shift, T20 attracts the most interest for betting. Many fans who watch BPL live at stadiums in Dhaka also take part in live betting.

ODI (One Day International) — in this 50-over format supporters follow a full day of play. ICC World Cup and bilateral series feature a high number of ODI matches. Mid-match run rate and partnership markets are especially popular in ODIs.

Test cricket — this five-day format sees the game shift gradually. Markets change according to pitch conditions, weather and the session of play. Compared to T20 bettors, those who bet on Tests tend to be more analysis-focused.

The T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and international series featuring Bangladesh Tigers are the centre of cricket fans' interest throughout the year. All of these competitions are available at dkwin logo Bet, with the option to place bets across multiple markets in each.

Football and other sports

Alongside cricket, dkwin logo also offers betting on football and other sports. In football the result is decided within 90 minutes and a draw is a valid outcome, so the market structure differs from cricket — match result, goal line and both teams to score markets are particularly familiar here. Other sports (Kabaddi, tennis, basketball) have different rules and durations, so understanding the format before you start betting is useful.

Popular markets in cricket betting and common examples

In betting, a "market" refers to the type of outcome you place a bet on. Below is a brief introduction to seven familiar cricket markets.

Match Winner

Match Winner

Betting on which of the two teams will win. In T20 there is no draw, so there are two options — Team A or Team B. Example: if you bet on Team A to win and Team A wins, your bet is successful.

Toss

Toss Winner

This market is decided before the match begins and has two options. You bet on which team's captain you think will win the coin toss before the game starts.

Top Batsman

Top Run Scorer

You bet on which batsman within a specific team will score the most runs. Batting order and pitch conditions are taken into account.

Total Runs Over/Under

Total Runs Higher or Lower

The bookmaker sets a number (for example 165 runs). You bet on whether the combined total runs of both teams will be over or under that number.

Top Bowler

Top Wicket Taker

You bet on which bowler in a team will take the most wickets. Pitch conditions and the opposition's batting order influence this market.

First Over Runs

Powerplay Total Runs

A market on how many runs will be scored in the first 6 overs (the powerplay). The early contest between batsmen and bowlers determines the outcome of this market.

Multi Bet (combining multiple markets)

You can build a multi bet by adding several matches or markets into a single bet. If all selections are correct the total return is larger, but if even one is wrong the entire bet is lost. For example: if you pick three outcomes across three separate matches, the odds are multiplied together, increasing the potential return — but also the risk. See the odds section below for a detailed multi bet example.

How to read and understand odds

Three types of odds formats are commonly seen in cricket betting: decimal, fractional and American. The names differ but all three express the same probability.

Three formats — the same value

Say a bettor wants to place ৳500 on Team A to win. The same probability is written in three formats like this:

Format Value Explanation
Decimal 2.25 Total return = stake × odds
Fractional 5/4 ৳5 profit for every ৳4 staked
American +125 ৳125 profit on a ৳100 stake

If Team A wins: ৳500 × 2.25 = ৳1,125 total return (৳625 profit + ৳500 original stake back). If Team A loses, the full ৳500 is gone. All three formats describe this same outcome.

What favourite odds look like

If Team B is the favourite, their odds are lower: decimal 1.25, fractional 1/4, American -400. American minus odds mean that amount staked returns ৳100 profit — so a ৳500 stake returns a total of ৳625 (৳125 profit). Betting on a favourite may seem easier to win but the profit is comparatively lower.

Multi bet example

Three selections across three matches: decimal odds of 1.60, 1.70 and 1.90. Combined as a multi bet: 1.60 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 5.17 (approximately). A ৳100 stake returns ৳517 if all three selections are correct. But if any one of them loses, the full ৳100 is gone.

Live in-play betting — odds change as the game goes on

LIVE Odds update in real time while the game is in progress

Alongside pre-match betting, in-play or live betting is currently the most widely used option. After a match starts, odds shift quickly with every event.

In cricket, when a wicket falls the batting team's match-winner odds generally go up because their chances of winning are seen as lower. As overs progress, run rate pressure increases or decreases, and total runs markets move accordingly. For example: 60 runs after 10 overs means the "over 160 runs" market will be assessed differently.

There is less time to decide in in-play, so it is best to set a fixed budget purely for entertainment. Betting is a form of entertainment — enjoy it, but stay within your limits. Read our guide to learn more about responsible gaming.

  • A fast internet connection during live betting reduces the risk of missing odds updates.
  • Watching the game while placing bets gives you a direct sense of the score and momentum.
  • In-play bets have a time limit — they must be placed before the market closes.

Odds change automatically with every ball, wicket and boundary. Various markets remain open during the match in dkwin logo's live section.

Practical tips for cricket betting

  • Understand one market well. Starting with match-winner or total runs is straightforward because the rules are simple.
  • Set your budget first. Only allocate an amount you can afford to lose — betting is a form of entertainment, not a source of income.
  • Adjust your approach for each format. What works in T20 may not apply in Test — make decisions based on the situation.
  • Keep a record of your bets. Tracking which markets you used, how much you staked and what the outcome was helps you understand your own habits.
  • Consider pitch and weather conditions. Pacers tend to benefit from a wet pitch, spinners from a dry one. This information is useful for the top bowler market.
  • Know the team lineup. Whether key players are in the side directly affects the top batsman and top bowler markets.
  • Avoid multi bets with too many selections. Adding more than four selections reduces the chance of all of them being correct considerably.
  • Do not increase your stake out of emotion after a loss. Chasing losses can lead to even bigger losses — take a break.

Common Questions About Cricket Betting

T20 has no draw, so the match-winner market is the simplest — two options. ODI has more playing time, which opens up a wider range of mid-match markets. In Test cricket a draw is a valid result, giving three options. Pitch conditions, weather and player fitness matter differently in each format.

Decimal odds of 2.25 mean you get a total return of ৳2.25 for every taka staked (including your original stake). A ৳500 bet returns ৳500 × 2.25 = ৳1,125 if you win — that is ৳625 profit plus your ৳500 stake back. The same value is written as 5/4 in fractional odds and +125 in American odds.

When a wicket falls, the batting team is considered less likely to win, so their match-winner odds go up — meaning a higher potential return on a bet placed on them. The bowling team's odds shorten. Total runs and powerplay markets also update immediately after a wicket falls.

Both BPL and IPL are T20 format, so the main markets — match winner, toss, top batsman, total runs — are largely the same. However, the number of markets and in-play options can vary slightly depending on the match and competition.

In a multi bet all selections must be correct together. If even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost — there is no partial return. Example: ৳100 staked across three selections, one loses, and the full ৳100 is gone.

American minus odds tell you how much you need to stake to win ৳100. -400 means you must stake ৳400 to win ৳100. So a ৳500 bet gives a total return of ৳500 + ৳125 = ৳625. In decimal this is 1.25 and in fractional 1/4 — all three represent the same value.
